Lieutenant General Michael Vetter, born in 1962, has been Director-General for Innovation and Cyber and Chief Information Officer at the Federal Ministry of Defence in Berlin since October 2025.

After joining the Bundeswehr in 1982 and officer’s training, he studied Economics and Management.

After several troop and staff assignments, he was commander of 2 Air Force Maintenance Regiment in Diepholz from 2005 to 2007 and headed the Bundeswehr Logistics Centre in Wilhelmshaven from 2012 to 2017. In this position, he was responsible for worldwide logistic support of the Bundeswehr. During this time, he was also ISAF Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at Regional Command North in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan in 2013.

In 2017, he became the first Chief of Staff of the newly established Bundeswehr Cyber and Information Domain Service Headquarters. From 2017 to 2018, he also performed the duties of Vice Chief of the Cyber and Information Domain Service.

From 2019 to 2025 Lieutenant General Vetter headed the Directorate-General for Cyber / Information Technology at the MoD in Berlin.

She currently serves as Senior Manager in the team responsible for supply chain cybersecurity at one of the largest global pharmaceutical companies. As part of the Women Go Cyber Association, she co-creates initiatives supporting women in building careers in cybersecurity and developing expert competencies.

She is a graduate of law, international relations and postgraduate studies in cybersecurity management.

A renowned IT architect and scientist involved in system development and research in the fields of artificial intelligence, cyber security and decision support. Appointed to the rank of brigadier general in 2023. Winner of over 100 prestigious awards granted by the national scientific community and international bodies in the field of significant inventions, including in the field of biomedicine and command support. He carries out R&D projects and research in the field of command support, computer simulation and the application of artificial intelligence methods in biomedicine at the Faculty of Cybernetics of the Military University of Technology. He is responsible for the construction, implementation and maintenance of public and classified RON ICT services and systems. In 2012, he defended his doctoral thesis with honours on the application of artificial intelligence methods and semantic analysis in the identification of crisis situations. He is a teacher and promoter of knowledge in the field of computer science, conducting his own classes in over 23 thematic modules in the field of software engineering, artificial intelligence, programming and cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity manager with nearly 20 years of experience at the intersection of technology, security, and strategy, and a veteran of military service.

Currently, as Director of the Cybersecurity Department in the insurance sector, he is responsible for strategic security management and the integration of cybersecurity functions with business objectives. Previously, he developed key operational capabilities as SOC team manager in government administration.

He is a graduate of the Military University of Technology (optoelectronics), postgraduate studies at the Warsaw University of Technology (information protection in ICT systems), and a participant in the Executive MBA program at the Warsaw University of Technology Business School. He holds numerous certifications, including CISSP, CEH Master, and AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Founder and CTO of the startup Cyber Simplifier.

Author of the book ‘Social Engineering in Practice: Tricks and Tips for Hacking People’.

His passion for offensive security began with experiments with game server mechanics and exploit creation. He currently combines offensive work with educational activities, conducting specialised training in social engineering for corporate clients.

Outside of work, he is an avid League of Legends player, horse rider, and volunteer at an organisation that rescues exotic animals.
