Amy Hogan-Burney - prominent cyber security expert at IN.SE.CON Congress!
We are pleased to introduce the next IN.SE.CON speaker - Amy Hogan-Burney, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Microsoft, managing the Customer Security and Trust (CST) team. Her extensive experience and strategic approach to cyber security make her one of the key figures shaping global policy in this area.
Amy Hogan-Burney is a leader with exceptionally broad knowledge and experience in cybersecurity and law. As the head of the interdisciplinary CST organization at Microsoft, she is responsible for enhancing customer trust in the digital ecosystem through global policy initiatives, collaboration with the public and private sectors, and combating cyberattacks orchestrated by nation-states.
CST is an interdisciplinary organization that works to strengthen customer trust in the security of the digital ecosystem. It achieves this by promoting global cybersecurity policies, collaborating with public and private institutions to disrupt cyberattacks from nation-states, and supporting deterrence efforts and the fight against cybercrime.
The CST team focuses on detecting, analyzing, and neutralizing cyber threats and influence operations conducted by nation-states that may threaten Microsoft, its customers, and democracies worldwide. Additionally, CST provides services supporting democratic governments through subscriptions. The organization also manages issues related to access to U.S. government classified information and compliance with national security requirements.
CST also has a team of engineers developing solutions that support the organization's key initiatives and tools for the Law Enforcement and National Security Team, which operates within Microsoft's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs Department. Artificial intelligence is an integral part of CST's work—both in terms of policy, regulation, and threat detection and mitigation.
Before taking on the role of leading CST, Ms. Hogan-Burney headed the Cybersecurity Policy and Protection Team, where she played a key role in implementing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union, leading the team responsible for compliance with privacy regulations. She began her career at Microsoft as the leader of the Law Enforcement and National Security Team, responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with legal obligations related to cooperation with law enforcement and national security agencies.
Before transitioning to the private sector, Ms. Hogan-Burney served as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). She holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from the School of Engineering at the Catholic University of America and a Juris Doctor degree from the Columbus School of Law at the same university.
